Its been an exciting day at the Toro Interprovincials with a clustered leaderboard after opening day for the men and some dominant performances in the womens event.
No team was able to capture two victories today which leaves the mens competition wide open as players were finding any excuse to
cool off on a stunning day at the Mangawhai Golf Club.
After an early win from the tournament hosts over Tasman, a loss to Waikato in round two means the feature clash tomorrow with Northland taking on defending champions Wellington in the morning which will be of huge importance for the make-up of division one.
If Northland are to be a chance of claiming their first Toro Interprovincial title, this match is pivotal. Once any side records two losses, you leave the event in other teams hands by relying on various results.
Wellington looked more than settled after a cruisy afternoon victory against Aorangi to start their campaign (morning bye) and got to know the Mangawhai Golf Club a little better before tomorrow.
Joining them with a bye this morning were Waikato and Otago who also got their campaigns off to a successful start beating Northland and Hawkes Bay respectively.
Perhaps the most exciting victory of the day was Poverty Bay East Coast who defeated the in-form Southland team to light up the tournament. They always seem to provide energy and a few great performances throughout the week.
Normality resumed at the Womens Toro Interprovincial with all the tournament favourites returning to form to record handsome victories at the Sherwood Park Golf Club.
After an early defeat yesterday, Wellington bounced back in style with two huge victories over Manawatu/Wanganui and Aorangi.
North Harbour, Canterbury, Hawkes Bay/Poverty Bay and the Bay of Plenty all shone like the Whangarei sun with huge victories to gain momentum.
The worrying sign for all the above teams is that Auckland, who have won six times in the past eight years, are winning by equally big margins. This morning they defeated Manawatu/Wanganui before bursting the locals bubble with a 5-0 win over Northland who were unbeaten.
Both divisions look likely to come down to the wire for the four semi-final places with Auckland, Northland and North Harbour fighting it out in division one. In division two Waikato, Canterbury and Bay of Plenty will create drama later in the week after all finishing the day unbeaten.
