Semi-finalists found at Toro Interprovincials

The top four women sides have been decided at the Toro Interprovincials with Auckland, Canterbury, North Harbour and Bay of Plenty advancing through to the final day at Sherwood Park Golf Club tomorrow.

Caryn Khoo continues to stamp her authority after five years away from competing in the Toro Interprovincials with a comfortable win to anchor another Auckland victory and end Wellingtons campaign this morning.

Any hopes of local side Northland making the semi-finals were also quickly squashed this morning with a red-hot North Harbour side winning 3.5-1.5.

While the Northland number one Kylie Jacoby put up a courageous fight against the current New Zealand Amateur champion Sylvia Brunotti, she could only manage a halve as the 14-year-old showed her class to fight back.

Bay of Plenty have proved why they have won 16 titles as a district with a clutch 4-1 win over in-form Canterbury to fly into the finals. However, they were aiming for all five points in the hope of avoiding Auckland in the semi-final.

Fortunately for Canterbury, Olive Tapu recorded a vital 2up win to see them now play North Harbour instead of Auckland.

After a great start to the week, Waikatos semi-final hopes were dashed as they could only manage a halve against Otago.

Much like the women, tournament hosts Northland were humbled today by an undefeated Auckland side who have gone under the radar throughout the week to win 3-2 in a captivating match.

The match was two-all entering the final hole after Scott Whiteman sent the clubhouse into a roar with a whopping 50-foot putt to claim and unlikely victory before Aucklands number one Johnny Tynan was calm under the pressure defeating Luke Brown 1up.

Playing in the pool of death, this really spices things up as we enter the back end of the event with Waikato also travelling with a one hundred percent record. However, tomorrow they have a bigger mountain to climb as they face Auckland and Wellington which will play a huge part in deciding our semi-finalists.

North Harbours young side continues on their merry way with another good win against Taranaki today. They now lead their pool and look likely to extend their stay at the Mangawhai Golf Club.

Wellington and Otago had a slight hiccup both recording halves against Manawatu Wanganui and Poverty Bay East Coast respectively. This could come back to bite them later in the week, but only time will tell.

It was a day to forget for the mainlanders with Canterbury suffering a big loss to Hawkes Bay 4-1 who have been superb this week.

Tomorrow is bound to be a thrilling day with tee times starting from 7:30am as we look to secure our top four. With both the mens and womens event being played over the same week, in 36 holes time we will be crowning our womens champions with the mens finals on Saturday.
