Kiwi golfer Ryan Fox has made the most of early calm conditions to finish with a superb final round at his first British Open.
The Auckland pro fired a five-under 67 to sit at four-under for the tournament and a share of 62nd early on the final day of thethird golf major of the year.
Fox began the day at one-over but had the perfect start with birdies at the opening two holes. A third birdie at the par four ninth saw the 28-year-old go out in 33, his best score over the front nine this week.
Fox kept the birdies coming on the back nine, picking up a shot at the 10th for the third time over the week before chipping out from a bunker at the 13th to move to five-under for the round.
The Kiwi dropped his only shot of the day at the par four 16th before finishing his maiden appearance at a major with a birdie on the 18th.
The leaders tee off overnight with Irish amateur Paul Dunne and 2012 British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen, both as 12-under) last out on the course at 2.30pm local time. Co-leader Jason Day and Jordan Spieth (-11), looking to win his third straight major, tee off 10 minutes earlier.
