This weekend the golfing world will be glued to one tournament and one tournament only, the US Open. Hosted by Oakmont Country Club, this promises to be one of the most challenging weeks in the golfing calendar and we have two New Zealanders taking it on.

The US Open

Its US Open week and New Zealand has arguably its best and most promising representation for some time and they tee off tonight at the glorious yet challenging Oakmont Golf Club, Pennsylvania.

To have two Kiwis in a Major is extremely exciting for all golf fans in the country and with the form Danny Lee and Tim Wilkinson are both in, there is certainly good reason for the excitement.

Lee has a chance to set the pace teeing off the first early in the morning, directly in front of superstars Rory McIllroy, Danny Willett and Ricky Fowler.

Wilkinson will peg it up in the afternoon field at his first Major Championship and will be more than excited after heartbreak in 2009 where he qualified for the Open Championship but injury sadly forced him to withdraw.

The Oakmont course is widely held to be the most challenging of all US Open venues. Built in 1903, designer Henry C Fownes had an aim to create the toughest golf course in the world. He seems to have achieved just that with Oakmont originally having more than 300 bunkers, which has now been reduced to only around 200

On top of the sand-traps and the usual US Open rough, which could produce fantastic South Island like silage, the greens are claimed to be even faster than Augusta National.

With 260 metre par threes and 600 metre par fives this US Open is taking it to the next level and one would have to think par for the course would be a great score at the second mens Major of the year.

Michael Campbell is in town to support our two Kiwis as they look to follow in his 2005 footsteps where he created New Zealand history.

Sir Bob Charles, Michael Campbell and Lydia Ko. All Major Champions, all New Zealand heros. Is this our best chance to have another player join this illustrious trio?

Good luck to Danny Lee and Tim Wilkinson, we will be watching and more importantly supporting!

Watch: The best and worst of the US Open after one round

No rest for the wicked as the women, including Lydia Ko, back up after the KPMG Womens PGA Championship. Nearly all of the contenders from last weeks event, including the new major Champion Brooke Henderson, will tee it up again this week at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Ko will be looking to continue her impressive form from last week and weresure the result will not affect the 19 year old, but only build her experience for the better.

Ryan Fox pops back down to the European Challenge Tour this weekend where he had a hefty amount of success in 2015. He will be looking to recreate that form and bring back the memories of being in contention after a quiet couple of months. Playing in the Najeti Open, at the St Omer Golf Club in France, Fox finished fifth in this event last year, so this is the perfect chance to do just that.

Most tours are in recess this week, but Josh Geary and Steven Alker will go into battle once again on the Web.com Tour at the Nashville Open, in Nashville Tennessee.

Lets not count out Olympic chances for these two if they flick the switch and climb the rankings. However, with just 50 days to go in the #RoadtoRio time isnt on their side.
