Kai Trump, granddaughter of Donald Trump, struggles in opening round of LPGA Tour debut

US President Donald Trump’s granddaughter Kai Trump sits in last place after struggling in her LPGA Tour debut, shooting a 13-over 83.

The teenager received a sponsor invitation for The ANNIKA at Pelican tournament at Pelican Golf Club in Florida.

The 18-year-old high school senior, the eldest child of Donald Trump jnr, is ranked 461st in the American Junior Golf Association rankings and has committed to play collegiate golf at the University of Miami.

She sits in 108th place after round one, four shots back from the rest of the field and 19 shots off the lead.

Korea’s Haeran Ryu leads after shooting a six-under 64. Australian major winner Grace Kim is a shot back in second.

Trump began with four straight bogeys before carding a six-under 41 on the front nine. She then had two double bogeys and three more bogeys on the back nine.

The $3.25 million The ANNIKA at Pelican in Belleair, Florida, is the penultimate event of the LPGA season, which will conclude with the Tour Championship November 20-23 in Naples, Florida.

It traditionally attracts a strong field and was won in 2024 by American star Nelly Korda.

Korda opened with a one-over 71.

Other sponsor invitations have gone to Wake Forest University senior Anne-Sterre den Dunnen of the Netherlands (two-over) and Northwestern University standout Lauryn Nguyen (one-over).
