Michael Hendry and Ryan Fox remain in the fight at Carnoustie despite both suffering a disappointing finish in their opening rounds of The 147th Open Championship.
Hendry signed for a round of two-over par (73) before Fox ended the day one shot behind recording a round of three-over (74).
Hendry
and Fox were on the same roller-coaster ride after starting their Open Championship with two early bogeys to pile on the pressure in front of record crowds.
To follow the same trend, both players managed to fight back with Hendry making four birdies through the middle stages of the round to get back to even par.
It was his bogeys on the challenging par three 16th and the final hole of the day that he will remember most which see him in a tie for 72nd.
Foxs opening nine did not reflect the form he has been in over the past month by making the turn at three-over, but as he so often does, the Aucklander bounced back with two quick birdies on 11 and 14 to lift the spirits of a small but passionate New Zealand crowd.
But much like Hendry, bogeys on 16 and 17 meant that Fox ended the day in a bad way to be tied for 90th.
With the leading pack fronted by Kevin Kisner at five-under all playing in the morning, Hendry and Fox will now have their time to shine when they get their second round underway on Friday morning.
But with each of the last 26 major championships having been won by a player who has been at or within six shots of the lead after the first round, its going to require a great fight back from the pair.
Hendry will be on the tee nice and early at 7:19am (local time) before Fox will get things underway at 10:21am as they look to make a move.
