Kiwi golfer Tim Wilkinson has made a steady start to the Canadian Open on the PGA Tour.
The Manawatu left-hander carded a three-under 67 during the opening round at the Royal Montreal Golf Club's Blue Course today to sit in a share of 16th place, three strokes back from co-leaderMichael Putnam and Tim Petrovic (-6).
Wilkinson made five birdies and two bogeys during his round, while fellow Kiwi Danny Lee fired a one-under 69 to sit in a share of 44th place.
Both players are positioned nicely to make the cut in Quebec, which would serve them well as they look to retain their PGA Tour card for next season.
Meanwhile, on the second-tier Web.com Tour, Hamilton's Steven Alker began the Midwest Classic in Kansas with a three-under 68 and is in a share of 21st place after the opening round, four shots back from leader Paul Haley II (-7).
Masterton's Ben Campbell, making a rare start on the Web.com Tour, fired an even-par 71 to be in a tie for 75th.
Alker has all but assured himself of a PGA Tour card for next season and was in ninth place on the tour's money list heading in to this weekend with the top 25 players guaranteed a card for the 2014-2015 season.
