Golf: Tim Wilkinson books spot on PGA Tour

Danny Lee will have some Kiwi company on the PGA Tour again next season.

Tim Wilkinson has booked his spot on the PGA Tour, earning his card after finishing in the top 25 in the Web.com Tour playoffs.

The top 25 at the end of the four-tournament playoff series all received PGA Tour cards, and Wilkinson's strong form throughout the playoffs saw him finish in 20th place on the money list.

Wilkinson needed a strong final round at the season ending Web.com Tour Championship to earn his card, and a two-under 68 did the trick for the Palmerston North left-hander.

At even par through 12 holes, Wilkinson then fired three consecutive birdies to move safely up the leaderboard, although a last-hole bogey gave him cause for concern.

However, he finished in a tie for 24th at five-under to keep him in 20th on the money list and re-gain his PGA Tour status after making only eight cuts on the tour this season.

The news wasn't as rosy for fellow Kiwi Steven Alker, who was also looking to re-gain his PGA Tour card.

Three double bogeys in his third round sent Alker tumbling down the leaderboard, and a final round 68 wasn't enough to crack the top 25, ending up 36th on the playoff money list.

Elsewhere, Ryan Fox finished in a tie for 139th and Mark Brown in a tie for 111th at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the European Tour, while Josh Geary won his third event from seven starts on the PGA Tour of China.

The top five players at the end of the Chinese season earn cards for the Web.com Tour, and Geary is almost certain to earn that honour, where he will likely join Alker in participating on the second-tier US tour.
