Caddie Steve Williams has described Adam Scott's victory in the World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational in the United States today as the greatest week of his life.
The New Zealand bagman was alongside the Australian as he shot a five-under-par 65 to win the $US8.5 million ($NZ10 million) tournament at FirestoneCountry Club in Akron, Ohio, by four shots from American Rickie Fowler and England's Luke Donald.
Sacked last month by former world No 1 Tiger Woods, Williams has agreed to carry Scott's bag on a fulltime basis and the invitational marked their first outing together as a permanent pairing.
Williams was sought out by American broadcasters immediately after today's closing round, a rare occurrence for a caddie, but it was indicative of the influence he has been credited with having over Scott, a 31-year-old who commentators says has not fulfilled his potential.
Williams made it clear he rated today's win very highly.
"I have been caddying for 33 years and that was the greatest week of my life,'' said Williams, who had previously enjoyed success at the Bridgestone Invitational on seven occasions when working for Woods.
"I have now had 145 wins and that's the best win I've ever had.''
Scott led the tournament from the opening round when he posted a 62 and converted a one-shot overnight lead into a commanding win.
