Golf: Ryan Fox into top 30 at PGA Championship, Tiger Woods closes in on leaders

Ryan Fox has produced a solid third round but remains seven shots behind the leader at the PGA Championship.

The Kiwi sits in a tie for 28th after carding a two-under 68, in what was a long day for him and several others at the Bellerive Country Club.

Fox, along with the likes of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, were forced to finish their second rounds early on the third day at 7am (local time) because of a band of strong storms that brought heavy rains to the Bellerive golf course in St. Louis, Missouri late on day two.

Fox – who finished birdie-birdie on the final two holes of his opening round – couldn't replicate his first day's finish and ended his second round (early on day three) with a bogey on the par-4 18th to finish with an even-par 70 and two-under for the tournament going into the third.

The players were then given a 30-minute break once they finished, before beginning their third rounds.

Despite Fox's long day three, he managed to find some of the form and ball striking that saw him rush out to a tie for 16th in his opening round, sinking four birdies in his third to leave him at four-under for the tournament.

Fox and everyone else will be chasing runaway leader Brooks Koepka.

Koepka will take a two-shot lead over Adam Scott into the final round after shooting a four-under 66 that left him at 12 under for the tournament.

Koepka is trying to become the first player since Woods to capture the U.S. Open and PGA in the same year. Woods did it in 2000 to join Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen as only the fourth player to accomplish that double.

Scott had the day's best round with a 65.

Jon Rahm, Rickie Fowler and Gary Woodland are at 9 under, and Woods – who shot a strong four-under in his third round – is another shot back, in a six-way tie for sixth.
