Wilkinson had missed the cut in his four previous events but his top-50 finish had him projected to jump seven places in the FedEx Cup standings to 175th.
Hamilton's Steven Alker, playing on the PGA Tour this season for the first time since 2003, missed the cut and could drop another spot in the FedEx Cup standings to 193rd.
On the European Tour, Michael Hendry finished with a disappointing final round of 74 as he claimed a share of 31st at the China Open.
Hendry opened with a four-under 68 to be one of the first-round leaders but he never went under the card during the rest of the tournament as he finished at even-par. China's Ashun Wu won the event at nine-under.
The North Shore's Hendry banked $31,450 for his efforts but he may have been left wondering what might have been after his promising start. Kiwis Ryan Fox and Mark Brown missed the cut.
Hendry registered his maiden win on the Japan Tour the previous week and looks set for a big year in 2015.
