Lee was even through five holes of his third round and remained at 10-under for the week, three back from American Erik Compton and Australian Jason Day who have a share of first.
Compton and Day were at 13-under, a shot ahead of Justin Rose, Blayne Barber, Jerry Kelly and David Hearn at TPC Louisiana when play was suspended because of darkness. Compton finished six holes, and Day played three.
The third round will resume tomorrow and Manawatu's Tim Wilkinson was in a tie for 37th at seven-under. The left-hander had played 12 holes of his third round. Hamilton's Steven Alker missed the cut.
On the European Tour, Michael Hendry was due to begin today's final round of the China Open six strokes back from the leaders.
The North Shore professional was at two-under for the week in a share of 21st and four players - Alexander Levy, Ashun Wu, David Howell and Hao-tong Li - were at eight-under.
