Golf: Hendry looking to turn-around bad form

His form has been "bloody awful" and Michael Hendry did not play well at the last NZPGA but he hopes technical swing changes bed in on his return to this week's tournament.

The Remuera course will challenge his ability to cut through some of the doubt he has carried about his tee to green work.

"It is quite tight off the tee in areas so you've got to drive well in areas,' he said. "Off the tee it can be quite challenging and the greens are quite subtle too.

"It is not overly long so you can make those decisions to lay back if you want to but it is going to be pretty birdie friendly so I think you are going to have to man up and take some risk at some stage. "

He had not played well last year but the strong Kiwi contingent had the advantage of knowing how to play their courses.

It was great to play successive tournaments at Remuera and Queenstown and winning several national PGAs were highlights of his professional career. They may not have the kudos of US events but every Kiwi wanted to win his national events.

Once Hendry finishes here, he will return to Japan where he has a two year exemption. Strong results there, a chance of the Olympics and ideas about attempting the PGA tour are on his planning page.

He is considering whether to attempt the web.com Q school next year as one avenue to reach a goal of playing on the PGA in the States.

He always wanted to play the PGA and that target had not changed however his form was not strong enough and he had to consider the project with his family.
