It doesn't happen nearly as often as he would like any more but Michael Campbell was back in the red figures today after shooting a two under par 70 at the BMW International Open in Cologne, Germany, to be in a share of 52nd.
The former US Open champion, whomissed the cut last week with rounds of 79 and 74, began with three birdies in the opening five holes. He dropped three shots either side of the turn and then added two more birdies to get back to two-under for the round.
Campbell, an eight-time winner on the European Tour, finished six shots behind Australian Marcus Fraser and Paraguayan Fabrizio Zanotti, who opened with rounds of 64.
Campbell is 266th on the European Tour standings and looking to make only his second cut from 11 events in 2012. His best performance for the season so far is a tie for 63rd at April's Malaysian Open.
Across the Atlantic, New Zealand No 1 Danny Lee was middle of the pack after the first round of the Travellers Championship in Connecticut on the PGA Tour.
Lee carded a one under par 69 at the TPC River Highlands to be in a share of 43rd, five shots behind leader American David Mathis, in a round that contained five birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey.
Manawatu professional Tim Wilkinson fired a three under par 68 at the Wichita Open in Kansas on the Nationwide Tour to be in a share of 33rd.
The former PGA Tour professional, who is 43rd on the Nationwide order of merit, made five birdies and two bogeys at the Crestview Country Club to be five shots behind American leader Casey Wittenberg (63).
Hamilton professional Steven Alker, who is 51st on the money list, will need a sub-par round tomorrow to make the cut after carding a 70.
The pair needs to finish inside the top 25 on the Nationwide order of merit to automatically qualify for the PGA Tour in 2013.
