Lydia Ko is set to compete in the fifth and final Major of the year, the Evian Championship starting this evening (tee time 6:29pm NZT).
Hosted by the Evian Resort Golf Club in France, this tournament will bring back special memories for Ko who won her maiden Major Championship here
in 2015.
New Zealand golf fans will be hoping that immense six-shot victory, courtesy of a final round 63, will be the perfect memory to lift Ko towards her elusive first victory of the season.
The world number eight found form at the right time during last weeks Indy Women In Tech Championship where she finished runner-up to Lexi Thompson. Her opening two rounds of seven and eight-under par showed positive signs leading into the Evian Championship and the all-important McKayson New Zealand Womens Open starting on the 28th of September.
"I think this is the most interesting and fun stretch of weeks for me. Playing at the Evian Championship, which is the place I won my first major, it's always going to be a special part no matter if I play well or not this week," said Ko.
"Then to be able to go back to New Zealand, see some of my friends and play the national open, it's a cool feeling and now it's an LPGA event a lot of people will come out and watch."
However, irrelevant of Kos form is the week, it wont be easy to repeat her 2015 success with a stacked field in France. World number one So Yeon Ryu returns, along with last weeks champion Lexi Thompson, who with Sung Hyun Park and Brooke Hamilton to name a few, will create a challenge for the Kiwi.
Ko will enjoy the advantage of playing in the morning field (8:29am local time) and get the chance to cash in on the best conditions of the week.
