On a horrendous conditions at the Westown Golf Club, Auckland have defeated Bay of Plenty 3-2 to become the Womens Toro Interprovincial champions for the fifth time in the last six years.
The final came down to the wire in a seesaw affair with Munchin Keh winning 6&5, Brittney Dryland
2&1 and Carmin Lim 1up to secure the required three points and continue this amazing dynasty.
Player of the tournament was awarded to Munchin Keh with an eight from eight record and was unstoppable this week at number two. This afternoon she made eleven pars, two birdies and never looked like making a bogey, which in these conditions was simply sensational.
Her emotions were hard to hide as the experienced Auckland and national representative anchored her side all week.
"Oh Im so stoked at the moment, from last year to this year is so different and we are so happy with this big win," beamed Keh.
She remained humble and calm after a week that many would dream of with her one hundred percent record.
"Its always a bonus, I wasnt too focused on the individual aspect and I just wanted to do my part for the team."
"The girls have done really well and worked really hard for this. This one is one to remember after last year, we wanted it so bad and to complete the week as champions, its a great feeling!"
Joining her with a clean sheet was teammate Brittney Dryland and Bay of Plentys Emmalee Morrell.
A forced weather delay came to action just moments after the grand final started and lasted for an hour. It was then decided by officials and team managers that the remaining matches outside the final were abandoned so officials could all focus on the main event.
With two points already recorded through Keh and Dryland. It all came down to the number five and debutant Carmin Lim who made the winning putt from a nerve racking eight feet on the final hole.
The 12-year-old showed incredible maturity slamming her left to right putt home and even without the knowledge it was for the title.
Lim has had an outstanding week winning seven out of eight matches showing clutch calmness in her first year at the countrys biggest tournament. She couldnt be happier to be part of this special side and achieve something so amazing.
"I had no idea that putt was for the win. It was meant to be an easy two-putt but Im just happy I made it," said an innocent Lim.
"This week has been a great experience and I cant wait to return next year."
The effort from the consistently strong and undefeated Bay of Plenty side cant go under the radar. Their fight in both the final and semi-final was outstanding and they can hold their heads high as they leave Westown Golf Club.
A defiant Alanna Campbell led her teams charge in what could be her final Toro Interprovincial after receiving a golfing scholarship to America. She defeated the hottest amateur golfer in the game, 14-year-old Rose Zheng 2&1 to do her part for Bay of Plenty.
When it was thought the Westown Golf Club volunteers couldnt do much more, they endured 18 holes, some without umbrellas, to record the lives scores and prove why they play such a crucial role in keeping golf at the forefront of sport in this country. Their efforts were simply outstanding and they will take many good memories from the 2016 Toro Interprovincial.
