New Zealand's Michael Campbell has fired a six-under 65 in the second round of the US PGA Tour event in South Carolina.
Campbell's round in the $US3.5 million ($NZ8.75 million) Worldcom Classic included eight birdies and has moved him within five strokes of the leader, 1996 British Open champion, Tom Lehman.
After
yesterday's lucklustre 72, Campbell said he was looking forward to three-week break from golf, but in today's round he looked anything but uninterested, carding 4 birdies on both the front and back nine.
Bogeys at the tenth and twelfth were the only blemishes in Campbell's round.
Lehman leads the field at ten-under after shooting two rounds of 66.
Fijian Vijay Singh is tied for second with American pair Billy Andrade and Billy Mayfair, one shot behind Lehman.
New Zealander's Frank Nobilo and Craig Perks were both at one over par after two rounds and missed the even-par cut.
