PGA TOUR QUALIFYING EVENT
(Kingswood, Texas)
An untimely injury has put New Zealand golfer Tim Wilkinson's playing future in the United States in doubt.
The Manawatu left-hander was forced to withdraw from a second stage PGA Tour qualifying event in Texas yesterday after twisting his ankle.
Wilkinson, who has been in strong form on the second-tier Nationwide Tour in the US, suffered the injury when he stepped into a pot-hole on Thursday before the first round at the Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood.
Despite the pain, Wilkinson braved his way to a disastrous 12-over par 84.
He returned yesterday with his ankle heavily strapped and despite an improved score of 78, withdrew on medical advice after aggravating the injury.
The withdrawal leaves Wilkinson without direct playing rights on the Nationwide and PGA tours next season as he cannot complete the PGA tour's qualifying school.
