Lack of form on the road is killing any playoff hopes for the Phoenix.
In eight games across the Tasman in the A-League this season, Wellington have won only once - 3-0 against Newcastle in round seven.
The Phoenix, in eight games, have scored 10 goals but conceded 15 and
picked up just five points.
Overall, in 5 seasons in the league, the story is just as bleak for Ricki Herbert and the Phoenix. In 67 away games they have won only 14. On just one occasion, in January/February last season when they edged Gold Coast, Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United by the odd goal, have they won back-to-back on the road.
The repeated trips across the Tasman do play a part but they are not taking advantage when playing at home. The Phoenix have played seven home games this season for just three wins.
