New Phoenix signing Gui Finkler has hit the training field less than 24 hours after arriving in Wellington from Brazil.
The 30-year-old former Melbourne Victory midfielder had been told he didn't need to train until Monday, but insisted on getting straight into it.
Finkler said it was the first time in seven weeks he'd kicked a ball, and he'd enjoyed every minute of the session.
"I have learnt over the years that the best thing for me when the season ends is not to kick a ball until pre-season training starts," he said.
"It means I feel fresh and can start to enjoy training straight away."
Finkler said his move to the Phoenix was a new chapter and challenge in his life, and he was looking forward to working with coach Ernie Merrick.
"Hopefully, he can help me improve my game. He knows the way I like to play and I think he has a plan for me.
"I've been through many changes in my soccer life and I think it's good to have new challenges."
Finkler is also looking forward to reviving his links with former Victory teammate Kosta Barbarouses at the Phoenix.
"Kosta and myself have played together for two years and have developed a good understanding. We can help each other both on and off the field."
