One of the most bizarre finishes to a football match has taken place in England's League One this morning.
In a display of great sportsmanship, Doncaster Rovers allowed Bury to walk in an equalising goal in their English third-tier match on Sunday after they had unintentionally taken the lead themselves.
Bury keeper Christian Walton had kicked the ball into touch following an injury, leaving Doncaster to kick the ball back to him to resume play. However, the attempt to put the ball back into play ended in a freak goal when it bounced over Walton to give Doncaster an unintentional lead.
But with time ticking away in injury-time at the end of the match, Doncaster manager Paul Dickov showed incredible sportsmanship.
Dickov told his players - who were also trying to get the goal overturned - to allow Leon Clarke to stroll half the length of the pitch unchallenged to score the equaliser.
"I didn't really think twice about allowing them to equalise. It just wouldn't have been right for us to take three points in the circumstances," said Dickov.
Bury manager David Flitcroft hailed his opposition manager.
"I've got the ultimate respect for Paul Dickov. He tried to get the referee to award a foul throw initially but then he's allowed us to score from the restart.
"Paul put football into a good place with his sportsmanship today because if you lose morality the game has no substance for me."
