Another match in New Plymouth, another brilliant game.
Brazil and Hungary served up a classic contest last night, with the South Americans prevailing 2-1, unfortunately thanks to a highly questionable 86th minute penalty.
Hungary led early before being reduced to 10 men in the 16th minute, after defender Tamas receivedhis second yellow card.
The result takes Brazil to the top of Group E, with one round to play.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, it was a highly entertaining match, in front of a modest crowd of just over 4,000. The Brazilians, cheered on by the constant Samba drums, conjured up some lovely tricks and turns while both sides gave a impressive exhibition of long range shooting, with Hungary's Zsolt Kalmar even trying a 60 metre chip (which wasn't that far away).
Bence Mervo scored his fourth goal of the tournament in the eighth minute, his sharply angled shot fumbled over the line by Brazilian goalkeeper Jean. However, Hungarian joy was short lived after Tamas' clumsy challenge and Brazil held the territorial ascendency from then on, with Hungary reduced to counter attacks. Danilo equalised in the 50th minute - climbing way above the taller Europeans - before Andreas Pereira converted the debatable spot kick in the 86th minute, after Gabriel Jesus went down in the area.
Hungary 1 (B. Mervo 8) Brazil 1 (Danilo 50, A Pereira 86 (pen)) Halftime: 1-0
