A picture of a little boy wearing a blue-and-white-striped grocery bag with the number of one of the world's most popular football player's has social media buzzing.
A picture surfaced online of a young boy, facing away from the camera, wearing the plastic bag with Argentine striker Lionel Messi's nameand number written on the makeshift supporter shirt in what appears to be permanent marker.
The picture was posted on Twitter by a Turkish sports website's account last week, claiming the boy was from Iraq, but this has not been confirmed.
The photo was tweeted again a day later by popular Messi fan account @messi10stats with the caption "A kid in Iraq" and a broken heart emoji.
The photo has been retweeted more than 4000 times from the Messi fan account alone, with many commenting the picture was cute, but sad.
Others expressed their hopes the little boy might be sent a proper supporter's shirt or even get to meet the legendary player one day. An admin for the Messi fan account claimed the player's team had contacted them through Twitter to try and find the boy.
"We got a DM (direct message) from Leo's team. They want to know who this kid is so that Leo can arrange something for him. RT (retweet) and spread," they tweeted on January 18.
No comment has been made by Messi or his team through his verified Twitter account.
