The first five days of the Fifa World Cup have been anything but slow, upsets have been the name of the game.
England narrowly avoided becoming the fifth former champion to stutter in their first game of the 2018 tournament, that'll be sure to make the owner of the TAB's
biggest World Cup bet a little nervous.
$55,000 on a previous champion to lift the trophy at odds of $1.27 is the biggest bet that the TAB has taken so far. As a result of the massive punt, the TAB odds were slashed to $1.22. That move wasn't enough to deter another big punter who chimed in with a bet of $5,000 at the new quote.
Continuing with the theme of upsets and uncertainty, the crisis that enveloped Spain after dropping coach Julen Lopetegui on the eve of the tournament was reflected in their odds to take home the gold trophy. They drifted out to $7.50 from the $6.50 that was available prior to the news. They've since moved into $5.50-second favourites after their opening 3-3 draw with Portugal.
The big money continued with Brazil who appears to be the hottest ticket in town with a $15,000 on a Brazil v Germany final at odds of $11, $15,000 on Brazil to make the Semi-finals at $2.10 and $2,000 on Brazil to make the Final at $3.25.
