SYDNEY - All eyes will be on Telstra Stadium tonight as the world's most famous footballer, David Beckham, leads the LA Galaxy against Sydney FC.
The exhibition has drawn a sellout crowd of 80,000 fans and raked in about A$3.5 million ($4.1 million) in gate receipts.
Sydney coachJohn Kosmina will be playing a number of his youngsters but says marquee player Juninho and captain Tony Popovic are certain to play.
The game will also mark the debut of Ruud Gullit - a former European footballer of the year - as Galaxy coach.
Beckham came through the Galaxy's last training session unscathed yesterday, though it appeared the English star was concerned about his left ankle.
But Gullit assured Beckham "will play" and hopefully all 90 minutes.
Beckham later turned out for a sponsor's function on a floating platform in Sydney harbour trying to kick footballs through floating goalposts with the harbour bridge and opera house as a backdrop.
He was joined by three stars from other codes - Mark Gasnier (league), Matt Giteau (union) and Dale Thomas (AFL).
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar had no trouble hitting the soccer net from 28 metres but struggled to find the same accuracy with the rugby and AFL balls.
He later attended a flashy, invite only party at Cafe Sydney, along with a number of special guests.
