Lyons beats Monaco 2-1 in French League

LYON, France (AP) Corentin Tolisso scored a second-half winner as Lyon got back to winning ways with a 2-1 defeat of Monaco in the French League on Friday.

Tolisso's goal in the 73rd minute from Arnold Mvuemba's assist ended a three-game losing streak for new coach Hubert Fournier, who replaced Remi Garde during the summer, while Monaco's dismal season continued.

Nabil Fekir opened the scoring in the 30th minute for the hosts before Lucas Ocampos equalized nine minutes later.

The win lifted the seven-time French champions to 12th place in the league standings, four points behind leader Bordeaux, and will boost morale ahead of their game at Paris Saint-Germain next week.

Fekir put his team ahead with a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner before Ocampos benefited from Geoffrey Kondogbia's fine work down the right side nine minutes later as he fired home from the edge of the area.

Left alone in the box, Dimitar Berbatov should have doubled Monaco's lead at the stroke of halftime but the Bulgarian striker sent his effort straight at goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.

Berbatov had another good chance when his header brought a save from Lopes in the 53rd minute, while Lyon and France forward Alexandre Lacazette showed his class with a volley that was blocked by keeper Danijel Subasic.

"Our confidence is back before our trip to (PSG)," Tolisso said.

For Monaco, confidence remains low ahead of the team's Champions League opener against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. Runner-up last season in the French league, the club is still reeling from the departure of James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao, having picked just four points from five games.
