Football: Tottenham's Eric Dier leaves field during League Cup match to use bathroom, infuriating manager José Mourinho

Portuguese football manager José Mourinho has been never short of excitement in his storied and ongoing managerial career.

But his latest 'adventure' at the helm of Tottenham Hotspur could be the weirdest yet.

Englishman Eric Dier started at the back for Spurs in their win over Chelsea in the English League Cup this morning. Down 1-0 in the 77th minute, and just after Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi almost doubled his side's lead, Dier felt a strong calling to do something.

And it wasn't to orchestrate a win.

Dier rushed off the pitch to use the bathroom, much to the dismay of his manager. An angry Mourinho then chased after Dier down the tunnel, telling him to hurry up.

Mourinho on Dier poo break: "you can imagine what happened but I was pushing him to come back as soon as possible. It is the consequence something unhuman [playing so many minutes]." Said he was dehydrated.

"The problem was that it wasn't a pee!"

Spurs were temporarily undermanned due to Dier's absence. He told AP their tight schedule recently may have contributed to his lavatory needs.

"Maybe that's one of the reasons I had to run off the pitch in the second half. He (Mourinho) wasn't happy but there was nothing I could do about it, nature was calling," he says. "After playing on Sunday and tonight it wasn't easy."

Despite his clear priorities of the bathroom over the ball, Dier was named man of the match.

His return may very well have paid off for the North London club, who went on to equalise in the 83rd minute through Erik Lamela, before outlasting their cross-town rivals 5-4 on penalties at White Hart Lane, and advance to the quarter-finals.

The hectic schedule does not quieten down anytime soon for Spurs, who have two games within the next five days.
