Auckland City, Canterbury United and Hawke's Bay United make up the top three positions on the ASB Premiership ladder after they all picked up wins today.
Held to a draw by Hawke's Bay in their last encounter, Auckland City got back on track with a 3-1 victory over the WellingtonPhoenix Reserves to top the table.
Ryan De Vries opened the scoring in the 33rd minute after beating the offside trap and slotting past Phoenix Reserves keeper Oliver Sail, but Sail stepped up before the half, saving Joao Moreira's penalty to keep the score at 1-0 at the break.
Moreira turned provider however, setting up former Phoenix youth player Clayton Lewis to make it 2-0, and although James McGarry got one back for the youngsters, Mikel Alvaro finished off good link-up play to slot home Auckland's third and seal the 3-1 win.
Auckland have seven points through three games, one point clear of Canterbury, who sit in second after their second straight win to start the season.
After beating the Phoenix Reserves 3-0 in their opener, they accounted for the other Wellington side - Team Wellington - 2-1 at ASB Football Park in Christchurch.
Angus Kilkolly had a say in both goals for the hosts, helping to put them one up after just five minutes after his cross was bundled home by Wellington defender Anthony Hobbs for the first own goal of the ASB Premiership season.
The former Hawke's Bay player then added to the lead in the 72nd minute with a calm right-footed strike. Feisty Wellington striker Luis Corrales was sent off to leave Team Wellington with 10 men, and a 94th minute penalty to Cole Peverley was only a consolation to leave the visitors with three points from two games to start their campaign.
