Former Republic of Ireland, Manchester United and A-League player Liam Miller has died aged 36.

Miller, who won the A-League title with Brisbane Roar in 2014 and played for Perth Glory and Melbourne City, had been suffering from cancer.

He won 21 caps for Ireland between 2004 and 2009 and made his professional debut in 2000 for Scottish Premier League side Celtic.

"Everyone at #CelticFC is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former midfielder Liam Miller. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time. RIP Liam, YNWA," Celtic wrote on Twitter.

Reports emerged in November that Miller had been battling pancreatic cancer and was receiving treatment in the United States, where he played for Wilmington Hammerheads in 2016.

He played for 12 clubs during a 16-year career that took him around the world.

After coming through the youth ranks at Parkhead, Miller helped the Celtic win the Scottish title in 2004.

He moved south to Old Trafford on a free transfer, making 22 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson in two seasons - which included a spell on loan at Leeds United - before joining Sunderland in 2006.

Leeds added a video of Miller scoring the winner in a dramatic 4-3 victory over Southampton in 2005.

Miller was part of the Black Cats' squad that won promotion to the Premier League in 2007.

Sunderland tweeted their condolences and a video of Miller in action in a 2007 match against Derby, where he scored a late winner.

"We are saddened to hear this evening that former #SAFC midfielder Liam Miller has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time," the Championship club wrote on Twitter.

Miller was on the move again in 2009, this time to QPR with a short spell at Loftus Road followed by a two-year stint at Hibernian before his Australian experience.

"We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of former Hibernian midfielder Liam Miller. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time," Hibernian wrote on Twitter.
