The Football Ferns spent most of the first stanza scrambling in defence. struggled to build any attacks oftheir own and spent the majority of the half pinned deep in their own half, unable to carve out space or create meaningful chances. Emma Sears scored with a tap in for the opener, followed strikes from Catarina Macario and captain Rose Lavelle.
The hosts continued to assert their dominance after the break with a goal to Lily Yohannes before Macario completed a brace and Lavelle capped the performance with a hat-trick.
The Kiwis were able to create more attacking chances in the second half, troubling the American defence at times.
