Soccer: Liverpool's Bellamy cleared of assault

LONDON - Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy was cleared on Thursday of assaulting two women in a Cardiff nightclub in February.

"He did not assault anyone, he did not lay a finger on anyone," lawyer Matthew de Maid said.

He said neither of the two women had wanted the case to come to court and that it was possible Welsh international Bellamy, 27, had been a victim of his high profile.

"It may well have been the case the police and prosecution, being kind to them, decided to proceed with this case because they didn't wish to be said to have shown favouritism towards him."
