Winston Reid returned from injury this morning only to find himself having an early bath after being sent off in West Ham United's 3-2 defeat at the hands of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the English Premier League.
The West Ham and All Whites skipper was
playing in his first game after suffering a minor hamstring injury which ruled him out of last week's FIFA World Cup qualifiers against New Caledonia, but was sent from the field by referee Mike Dean after receiving a second yellow card for elbowing England striker Harry Kane while contesting for the ball deep into stoppage time.
Kane was Tottenham's saviour by the end of the match, scoring two goals in quick succession to hand Spurs a 3-2 win.
Down 2-1, Kane struck from close range with two minutes remaining, before taking the lead in stoppage time after converting a penalty after Son Heung-min was fouled.
It was the second time referee Dean had pointed to the penalty spot in the match, and was the ninth peanlty in 10 matches he has awarded.
