An outrageous scissor kick goal from Emre Can has given Liverpool a 1-0 win over Watford this morning (NZT), strengthening the Merseyside club's Champions League qualification hopes.
With the game locked up at 0-0 in first half injury time, midfielder Lucas Leiva lobbed a pass upfield for Can to latch onto as the Reds searched for a goal before the break.
However, rather than taking a touch before deciding on whether to pass, shoot or dribble, the 23-year-old German midfielder lined the ball up as it sailed towards him, and displayed some fine acrobatic skill to scissor kick the ball with his right foot into the top left corner of the goal from just inside the penalty area, leaving Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes for dead as the top four hopefuls went into the Vicarage Road sheds with a one-goal advantage.
That solitary goal was the only difference between the two sides for the remainder of the fixture, with the match finishing 1-0 in favour of Liverpool, giving them a much-needed three point boost in the race for the top four.
