Copa America final result: Argentina beat Colombia 1-0 after extra time winner

Kick-off for the match was delayed three times until 1.15pm NZT, after fans attempted to force entry to the stadium without tickets.

Chaotic scenes shared on social media show fans packed into entryways and children being hoisted over barriers, while one alarming clip appeared to show people accessing the stadium via an air vent.

The match itself was uneventful in comparison, with an ankle injury to Argentine superstar Lionel Messi making most of the headlines in the 90 minutes of normal time.

Messi was unable to continue the match, coming off at half time and his MLS club Inter Miami will await news of how serious the injury is.

After 117 minutes the final looked poised to head to penalties until Lautaro Martinez found himself one-on-one with the Colombian keeper and slotted home the winner to give Argentina their 16th Copa America title.

“Thousands of fans remain outside the gates, and the pictures coming from Hard Rock Stadium present a scene of chaos,” a statement read.
