Player ratings: All Whites v Mexico

Herald on Sunday football writer Michael Burgess rates the All Whites' performances against Mexico last night at Westpac Stadium.

Glen Moss 7
Some crucial saves again, though at times showed a reluctance to leave his line. Left stranded for all four Mexican goals.

Storm Roux 5
Improved in the second half when switched to left full back after being caught out badly several times in the first spell. Much to learn but has time on his side.

Tommy Smith 6.5
Captain's knock from the Ipswich player, and showed courage to save a certain goal. Set piece organisation still lacking.

Andrew Durante 5
His elevation to the All Whites has unfortunately coincided with a poor run of form for both club and country from the usually dependable defender. All at sea several times in the first half, though responded with some excellent last ditch tackles in the second.

Bill Tuiloma 6.5
Looks the real deal. Has the physical attributes but what stood out was the confidence as he seemed comfortable at this level. Big promise in store.

Kosta Barbarouses 7.5
Excellent. Another energetic performance from the 23-year-old. His persistence won the second half penalty and his runs and vision constantly created problems for the Mexican defence.

Michael McGlinchey 6
Much improved from the first leg. Distributed well and found space to attack, though faded a little in the second spell.

Chris James 7.5
Wholehearted display, capped by a perfect penalty. After being in the international wilderness for several years, he plays like someone grateful to have another opportunity and leaves nothing on the pitch.

Marco Rojas 6
Twisting run in the first half brought the crowd to their feet as he displayed some lovely touches. Still needs to work on his physical presence. With more space - and a return to full fitness - can be a match winner in years to come.

Shane Smeltz 6
Some classy touches but not as involved as in the past. Should have taken first half penalty.

Jeremy Brockie 6
No questions over his effort but execution was lacking. Not just for the poor, rushed penalty but also with several other half chances that fell his way.

Rory Fallon 6.5
Like James, seems to play every match like it might be his last. Goal was good reward for a positive second half cameo.

Louis Fenton 6.5
Thanks Ernie. We saw the Phoenix coach's vision come to fruition last night, as the converted attacker produced a fearless display at right full back as a second half substitute. Full length dive to save one certain goal and plenty of thrust on attack.

Craig Henderson 6
Replaced a tiring Rojas. Produced a shot from his first touch, though fell to his weaker left foot.
