"Although there is a lot of controversy about female gamers and how they are not actually excellent at the game itself, I think our female students have contributed in the way that they can also bring their opinions to the table. I also think that having a gender balance within the team is beneficial as this is a step towards gender equality and these girls are role models for the esports community."
Li started the club with fellow student David Zhang and it has grown rapidly.
"Our club has only been active for three terms but already we have established quite a few members. Our esports programme aims to broaden the range of games we offer because we basically only have League of Legends, and a bit of CS:GO," Li said.
"I can see more students joining our club once the club has established its reputation within the school. If there are more "one-off" competitions (e.g. one day competitions) I think more students will be willing to represent the school and therefore join our club to practice for them as we offer a perfect platform for them to meet other esports players."

The HSL quarter-finals get underway tonight and all matches in the finals are contested across a best-of-three format.
Today's televised match that will get underway live on Sky at 5pm features Mt Roskill Grammar School Premier 1 meeting Burnside High School Premier.
The first match will screen on Sky and the whole contest will be streamed online on Twitch.
Mt Roskill are the defending champions of the HSL and were undefeated during the regular season.
Led by Vinson "Kedu" Feng, they're looming as a tough side to beat again during this split.
In the other matches, Christ's College No 1 will tackle Avondale College Premier, Tawa College 1 will meet Rangitoto College Premier 1 and Mt Albert Grammar School 1 will play Wellington College Premier 1.
The quarter-finals in the Challenger Division will also get underway this week.
