League of Legends team Tectonic will bring a strong Kiwi flavour to their playing roster for the 2018 OPL campaign.
Oceania's pro league features the best League of Legends players from Australia, New Zealand and surrounding islands competing for the regional championship.
Next season is shaping up to be highly competitive with the entry of AFL clubs the Adelaide Crows and Essendon and private equity interests sparking a bidding war for talent in the free agency period.
The newest team in the OPL have confirmed their lineup and it features three New Zealanders.
Mid Ari "Shok" Greene-Young will be joined by ADC Omar "Low" Abouelkheir and Support Isaac "Tiliting" Bellamy; Top Daniel "Papryze" Francis and Jungle Ryan "Swathe" Gibbons complete the squad.
Green-Young says he is looking forward to being part of a League of Legends team on the rise.
"I'm pleased to be returning to Tectonic as the mid laner for 2018. I am excited to see how much my team and I can develop this year."
Coach Jonny "Saiclone" Weatherly will return to the staff, which bodes well for the side.
"I'm excited to share that I'm working with Tectonic for the 2018 season. The organisation has backed me from day one to implement my coaching methods, and we're going to reach another level in 2018," Weatherly says.
"Our coaches and players will push each other every day to grow as both people and performers. This upcoming year is all about testing our limits on growth of talent, knowledge, and knowledge in performance and coaching. We plan to impress and we will overperform, so get ready. There's an earthquake coming."
Tectonic have invested heavily in their coaching staff with expertise in every playing position, while their gaming house has exceptional facilities for an esports team.
The Tectonic management are committed to providing an environment that fosters talent development and a professional attitude.
To add to the level of professionalism, Tectonic has appointed Matt "Smite" Ross as the General Manager of the team.
"I'm thrilled to lead the management of Tectonic this year. There's a huge focus on developing our talent in 2018 and creating the best environment for our team to thrive in," Ross says.
"We have the most kiwis an OPL team has ever seen, which extends to the coaching and management. A brand new house, a revamped roster and coaching staff with returning stars means that by the end of the year we plan to be shaking up the top positions of the OPL."
Tectonic have replaced TM Gaming in the OPL and will look to build on last year's foundations after they kept the spot in the top flight.
Tectonic will be active on social media and there will be plenty of content on offer for you to be able to follow the development of your favourite players.
Tectonic's first game of the new season is on January 20 against ORDER at 5pm NZT and can be watched on Tectonic's website www.tectonic.gg.
