Jock Paget completed a memorable double as New Zealand took a clean sweep of the podium at the Burghley horse trials in Lincolnshire today.
The 29-year-old Olympian won the three-day classic aboard Clifton Promise to complete a double of Badminton and Burghley - not achieved in the same year, on the same horse, since 1989 with Virginia Leng and Master Craftsman.
Prime Minister John Key has praised equestrian Jock Paget for his rare double in the sport's most prestigious events.
Paget, 29, won the Burghley horse trials in Lincolnshire on Monday after victory at Badminton in May.
"I believe this is the first time since 1989 that a rider has wonthe Badminton-Burghley double in the same calendar year,'' Mr Key said at a press conference this afternoon.
"Not only that, New Zealand claimed all of the top three spots... with Andrew Nicholson finishing second and third on two of his horses.''
He said the results further highlighted New Zealand's sporting prowess on the international stage.
