Diving: New Zealand divers nab good grand prix results

New Zealand divers are turning in encouraging performances on the grand prix circuit in North America.

Following solid performances in Gatineau, Canada last month, there have been more medals for the New Zealand team at the San Juan round at the weekend.

Lizzie Cui and Yu Qian Goh have won New Zealand's first women's synchronised diving grand prix medal in more than 10 years at the Puerto Rico event.

Their score of 237.60 was good enough for bronze.

There were two other bronze medals won.
Liam Stone and Anton Down-Jenkins finished third in the men's syncho, with a score of 345.60, just shy of the national record, and in the mixed 3m event, Down-Jenkins and Goh also nabbed bronze, repeating the effort of Stone and Cui in the Canadian event.

Stone wrapped up his campaign, following his silver medal in Canada, with a fifth place in the individual men's 3m final and Cui took sixth in the women's individual 3m final.

Earlier, 17-year-old Down-Jenkins made his first international semifinal in finishing eighth overall in the men's individual event and Goh, also 17, improved on her Canadian finish to be 15th overall in the women's competition.

"It's been a number of years since New Zealand won a medal at a Fina Diving Grand Prix and to have won five in the space of two weeks is incredible," New Zealand selector Simon Latimer said.

"It shows how much success the New Zealand programme is having and the potential New Zealand has in the sport for the future".
