Carter's best-selling biography has just been released in Europe, and the sporting great had previously posted pictures of himself looking rueful in front of the pile of books to be signed.
Last week, Carter collected the BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year award. While doing so, he paid an emotional tribute to Jonah Lomu, the All Black great who died suddenly last month.
Carter missed Lomu's memorial service at Eden Park because he had started his contract in Europe.
Lomu, the only other New Zealander to collect the gong, won it in 1995, the year he dominated the Rugby World Cup in South Africa.
Carter was recognised for his showing at this year's World Cup, which New Zealand won against Australia.
