Deaf team concede 164 goals, blame it on the ref
An English amateur football team made up of deaf players want their relegation to be called off - because their players couldn't hear the referee's whistle during matches.
Birmingham Deaf FC lost 25 of their 26 fixtures during their local league, conceding 164 goals in the process, meaning they finished bottom of division five.
The team, which was formed in 1921 and is made up of nearly all deaf players, have been relegated two divisions as punishment (which we think sounds a bit harsh) but they claim it's all the ref's fault.
A spokesman for Deaf FC said that the refs are supposed to wave flags while, at the same time, blowing a whistle for fouls, but were failing to do so.
We're not exactly sure how that excuse justifies shipping 164 goals, but it sounds like a classic case of players not playing to the whistle.
