Action from BOP Indians v Eastern Pirates at Ray Boord Park.

A powerful batting display from Eastern Pirates in a fiery local derby has seen them continue their unbeaten start in the Rotorua/Taupo senior reserve grade with a seven-wicket win.

Pirates, who batted first, secured their fourth dominant victory in this season's competition after setting a target of 244/3 for BOP Indians to chase at Ray Boord Park on Saturday.

Pirates' Cayde Thomson top-scored with the bat, hitting 84 after making a century last weekend, whilst Des Beckett (39) and captain Johnny Wiringi (32) also impressed for their side.

BOP Indians were then bowled out for 143 runs in the second innings with eight overs remaining with Mark Smale impressing with the ball, taking three wickets for 26 runs.

Wiringi was happy with his side's performance and highlighted Thomson and Beckett as standout performers.

"We just came out firing off all cylinders," he said. "I told the players to be confident and aggressive at the crease to give us a good start in the game and they did just that.

"Cayde was outstanding. He has been all season but over the last three games he's scored 300 runs - having that sort of player in your side gives a lift to everyone.

"Also Des really brought his experience on to the crease and kept us racking up those runs.

"We made it difficult for Indians by setting such a big target and just kept the momentum going when it came to the bowling."

BOP Indians co-captain Umesh Morarji said his side's fielding performance let them down but praised Yash Patel and Harpreet Singh for their batting display.

"We must have dropped about six catches. You just can't afford to do that," he said. "A positive came from Yash and Harpreet, they dug deep out there.

"We still want to make the semifinals so we will just have to put this result behind us."

Pirates' win sees them top the table with the only other unbeaten side in the competition - Taupo Old Boys 1st XI - but despite the strong start Wiringi said the side were taking "one game at a time" and he was wary of next weekend's opponents GM Painters Lake Taupo CC.

"This year we have started with the right culture at the club and have been the ones to watch at the moment," he said. "But we can't get ahead of ourselves. That's how you get complacent.

"I'm not confident playing Lake Taupo - they are a new team in the league so we're not sure what to expect. It will all depend on the day."

Meanwhile, joint leaders Taupo Old Boys 1st XI continued their winning streak, cruising to a 143 run victory over Rotorua's Chance Cars Geyser City at Ray Boord Park.

And Central CC Reserves slipped to their second loss of the season in a thriller at Neil Hunt Park. The home side set a target of 240 to chase but Taupo chased it down in the second innings to win by four wickets.

Elsewhere, in the WBOPCA Western Bay of Plenty reserve grade, Rotorua's Geyser City's 1st XI recorded their first win of the competition.

Katikati batted first at home and were bowled out by the Rotorua side for 149. Sean Ingram did plenty of damage with the ball taking four wickets at a cost of 19 runs. In the second innings Geyser City had to work hard for a three-wicket win, with captain Matt Collier still in at the end for 41 not out.

And, at the top of the table, leaders Lake Taupo CC cruised to victory when Greerton paid a visit to the Great Lakes region. The home side posted 170 all out and then bowled the visitors out for just 90, with Ray Howe returning the sterling figures of 5/5.
