The New Zealand women's cricket team have continued their dream run at a quadrangular one-day series in India, adding the tournament hosts to the scalps of Australia and England in Chennai early today.
New Zealand chased down the previously unbeaten India's 201 all out with three wickets in hand -- and 17 balls to spare -- in Chennai.
The White Ferns were in early difficulty at 30 for three but a 104-run stand for the fourth wicket between Maria Fahey and Sarah McGlashan put New Zealand back on track to preserve their unbeaten record.
A charmed Fahey -- dropped twice -- top scored with 59, while McGlashan compiled 55.
Earlier, India were constrained on a good batting track by spin bowler Sarah Tsukigawa, who took three for 33 off 5.2 overs at the tail of the innings while Nicola Browne (two for 20) and Suzie Bates (two each for 26) made the initial inroads.
Indian captain Mithali Raj lamented two dropped chances offered by Fahey.
"We were 20 to 30 runs short of a good score but if we had taken those chances that we got off Fahey then probably the lower middle-order would have been exposed to (Jhulan) Goswami much earlier and given us a chance to win," Raj said.
Spinner Goswami did her best to defend the target, taking four for 26.
New Zealand captain Haidee Tiffen felt her side should have won the match long before victory was achieved.
"Once the partnership between Fahey and McGlashan was broken wickets began to fall, to be honest, to stupid shots," she said.
Hemlata Kala top scored for India with 69 off 96 balls.
New Zealand's next match is a rematch with their trans-Tasman rivals on February on Wednesday.
