New Zealand cricketers Jesse Ryder and Doug Bracewell have been dropped from the Black Caps team for the weekend after reportedly drinking at a Napier hotel following a cricket match this week.

New Zealand Cricket announced tonight that Ryder and Bracewell will not be part of the team for Saturday's third ODI against South Africa in Auckland.

According to a press release, Ryder and Bracewell broke team protocols saying that players recovering from injury should not consume alcohol. Also, while at the hotel both players verbally reacted to taunts from a member of the public, NZC said.

Bracewell was receiving treatment for a tight hamstring and Ryder split webbing in his hand during the match in Napier.

Black caps team manager Mike Sandle said he was disappointed with the behaviour.

"We have high expectations for all of our players both on and off the field and everyone is aware of the conduct expected of them and how to best prepare for international cricket," he said in a statement.

"Both players have apologised for their actions and said they fully understood the consequences. They know they have let down fans and teammates alike."

The test squad is set to be named in Auckland tomorrow.

Ryder's troubled past includes a fine and warning by New Zealand Cricket in 2010 after disrupting a Christchurch hotel while allegedly drinking, and his season ending early in 2008 after he cut his hand while trying to break into a hotel toilet.
