Cricket: Twose No 2 in ODI rankings

Roger Twose has climbed to second on cricket's world rankings for one-day batsmen.

Twose's magnificent form in Africa, capped by his maiden one-day century against South Africa in Cape Town at the weekend, has edged him past Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, with only Australia's Michael Bevan between him and the No 1 spot.

Twose's standing on the latest PricewaterhouseCoopers rankings is believed to be the highest position any New Zealand batsman has achieved.

Nathan Astle has slipped to 19th, with Chris Cairns the next New Zealander at 26.

Twose is the first New Zealand batsman to score more than 1000 one-day runs in a calendar year.

He has gathered 1068 runs in 25 one-day internationals this year at an average of 56.21.
