Cricket: Ponting has potential to be ranked alongside Bradman

Former Australian test wicketkeeper Rod Marsh has tipped Ricky Ponting to be revered like Sir Donald Bradman or Sachin Tendulkar if he plays to his potential.

The Australian test captain in-waiting was yesterday named Wisden Australia's Cricketer of the Year for his outstanding form with the bat and leadership of the one-day side.

Marsh, Ponting's one-time mentor, said the 28-year-old had the talent to be one of the all-time greats.
