Nick Horsley ensured Bangladesh began their tour of New Zealand on a losing note in a one-day cricket match against Northern Districts in Hamilton yesterday.
The left-handed batsman stroked a career-best 92 as Northern Districts made 228 for three in response to the tourists' 222 for eight at
Seddon Park.
Horsley, whose previous best score in 35 one-dayers for Northern Districts was 89 not out, went past that effort before holing out in the deep in search of his fifth six.
He left the scene with Northern Districts cruising at 141 for two in the 29th over, and they encountered little difficulty reaching their target as captain James Marshall belted an unbeaten 55 from 39 balls to steer them home in 42.3 overs.
Horsley put on 62 for the first wicket with BJ Watling and 79 for the second with Daniel Flynn, and scored his runs off 99 balls, containing 10 fours and four sixes.
Bangladesh's innings was built around a forthright 73 from opener Zunaed Siddique, who scored 73 off 114 balls. The tourists were well poised at 121 for two in the 32nd over before they collapsed to lose five for 56.
That left lower order batsmen Farhad Reza and Mashrafe Mortaza to kick things along in the latter stages with 27 and 25 not out respectively.
Brent Arnel was the pick of the Northern Districts bowlers, with figures of three for 40 off his 10 overs.
Bangladesh play another one-dayer against Northern Districts in Hamilton tomorrow, before a one-day game against Auckland on Friday.
