ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - OCTOBER 14: Adil Rashid of England reacts during Day Two of the First Test between Pakistan and England at Zayed Cricket Stadium on October 14, 2015 in Abu Dhabi, Uni
England's leg-spinner Adil Rashid has received a title nobody wants - he's been named the worst-performing bowler on debut in the history of test cricket.
Rashid took the honour from previous record-holder, Australia's Bryce McGain, when his 34 wicket-free overs cost England 163 runs during day two of the first
test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.
While Pakistan declared 523 for eight, England began their response at 56 for none. Teammate Ben Stokes summed Rashid's performance up simply: "It hasn't gone the way he would have wanted it to".
"We've been here for two weeks and know how well Rashid's been bowling in practice," Stokes added hopefully. "Next time he has the ball in hand hopefully he can deliver something big.
The runs conceded by Rashid were about three times the official crowd figure for the first day of the match, at 54. This meant that McGain's record of 0-149 against South Africa in Cape Town in 2009 - his first and only test - was surpassed.
