Chris Gayle is hopeful he will be playing Test cricket in 2016.
Gayle, 36, hasn't donned the whites for the West Indies since 2014.
The hard-hitting batsman will play the upcoming Big Bash League season instead of the ongoing three-Test series between the tourists and Australia.
Gayle suggested on Tuesday
that a back injury meant he was never going to be fit enough for the recent clash in Hobart, where the visitors were crushed by an innings and 212 runs.
"There's no way I could have actually been part of that Test team, I'm just coming back from injury," Gayle said.
