Australia’s Cameron Green has broken the record for the highest priced overseas player in Indian Premier League history, bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for 25.2 Indian crore.
Green’s winning bid translates to $4.78 million, although he’ll only see around $3.4 million of that because of a new IPL rulethat caps what overseas players can earn. The rest goes into a BCCI player welfare fund.
In total, eight New Zealanders earned new IPL contracts with Adam Milne the most expensive, picked up by Rajasthan Royals for $455,000.
Three Kiwis have also been signed for the Knight Riders for somewhat less than Green commanded – with Tim Seifert ($285,000), Finn Allen ($380,000) and Rachin Ravindra ($380,000) also heading to Kolkata.
Pace bowlers Zak Foulkes ($142,000) and Matt Henry ($380,000) have gone to the Chennai Super Kings, coached by Stephen Fleming, while Jacob Duffy ($380,000) is Royal Challengers Bangalore-bound and Kyle Jamieson ($380,000) heads to the Delhi Capitals.
Several New Zealanders – like Mitchell Santner (Mumbai Indians), Glenn Phillips (Gujarat Titans) and Lockie Ferguson (Punjab Kings) and Trent Boult (Mumbai Indians) – were already retained by their franchises.
Devon Conway, Michael Bracewell, Daryl Mitchell, Will O’Rourke, Ben Sears, Tim Robinson, Bevon-John Jacobs and Muhammed Abbas were all unsold.
